A Unique LA Home With Arcade Wall Graphics

A Unique LA Home With Arcade Wall Graphics

Brazilian designer, Guilherme Torres has designed this unique home in Los Angeles, CA. The exterior of the house is defined by a long, white rectangular structure that comprises the first floor, and a square-shaped, wooden structure mounted perpendicularly to the white, is what would be considered to be the second floor. The interiors are sleek and minimalistic - arcade wall graphics and plush furniture and rugs decorate the living room, beautiful, dark brown wood composes the kitchen cabinetry and dining table while a yellow counter offset it, and concrete dresses the steps and floors to provide an industrial vibe. The architecture seems to be inspired by cubism and by 80's era arcade games. The house is all at once - harshly geometric and simple, yet luxurious and sleek. The metal and concrete materials add an industrial quality, yet the wooden exteriors offer naturalistic, earthy relief.

Stunning Home in Hollywood Hills

Stunning Home in Hollywood Hills

Its asking price of $10 million holds a bit of contention amongst Hollywood area real estate junkies, but a few photos of this listed West Hollywood house offer a clue as to why. Savor the vast great room plan, three bedrooms, airiness and walkability. It also features a media room for those screening their own talkies before friends while enjoying the celebrity status that comes from living in this exclusive neighborhood, which is better known as the Bird Streets. The neighborhood contains several homes listed at upwards of $18 million and featuring a dozen bedrooms, half dozen baths, spacious trophy rooms, etc. The front entrance of this one seems to shut itself off from the neighborhood but takes ample advantage of the birds eye views of Los Angeles, especially from the master suite and the coolly illuminated pool and veranda.

Bathrooms of the World

Bathrooms of the World

This beauteous parade of bathrooms, inspired by an array of contrasting countries, demonstrates how to pull elements of inspiration from some of the finest, most luxurious takes on the humble bathroom from across the world. These rooms aren't intended to give an educational cross section of a typical home in these locations, but rather to take a pinch of flavor from each culture, mix it up with a good measure of panache and a dash of whimsy.

Edgy Italian modernism rules in this dramatically dark setting, though there is a clear nod to old Italy in the sculpture and chandelier work.

A Peninsula House on Lake Austin, Texas

A Peninsula House on Lake Austin, Texas

What do you get when you combine a contemporary design studio like Bercy Chen Studio with a traditional, 1980's lakehouse right on Lake Austin? A spectacular vacation home with breathtaking views, that includes the best of both worlds--that is the comforts of a traditional lakehouse with the relaxing powers of modern design. The original home was built in the 1980's and to Bercy Chen Studio's disappointment, did not take advantage of the spectacular lake views just feet away from the house! That is why large glass windows, spanning from the ceiling to the floor, were installed around the entire house--to allow as much of the beautiful view in as possible. The previous house also did not respect or pay too much mind to the nature around it--but Bercy Chen made sure to change all of that with their remodel! http://vimeo.com/8042020

The roof begins to dissolve at the top right hand corner–this part of the roof is made of slatted wood, and houses the glass chimney. It was purposefully designed this way to further connect the house to the natural world around it.

2 |
A pool nearly surrounds the entire house, hence the name “Peninsula House.” The expansive glass doors can be slid open, and one can literally walk out from the living room and into the calm and modern pool for a quick, refreshing dip.

3 |
A pool, solarium, and vegetative roof were added to meld with the natural surroundings.

4 |
Glass paneled walls surround the entire house. A glass balcony was installed into the roof. The traditional gabers and gable roof were transformed to look more abstract.

5 |
A good deal of glass, steel, and new details were used to completely reinvent the home.

6 |
Color, reflection (from both the materials and the surrounding pool), and geometry was incorporated into the design as much as possible, in order to bring natural light deep into the house.

7 |
The modern and sleek open kitchen and dining area.

8 |
A few hints or elements of the traditional lakehouse still remain in the house. The kitchen, while streamlined, is furnished with dark, rich mahogany cabinetry.

9 |
Though more modern, the interior design still retains the coziness of a vacation getaway home by the lake.

10 |
11 |
The severely simple dining area offers the opportunity for tranquil evening meals.

12 |
Even the restroom offers views of the outdoors.

13 |
A modern balcony, surrounded by green plants, is even more exposed to the natural world right in front of the house with the use of glass panels.

Amazing balconies of Willis Tower (Formerly Sears Tower)

Amazing balconies of Willis Tower (Formerly Sears Tower)

Willis Tower, formerly named Sears Tower, is a 108-story 1,450 feet (442 m) skyscraper in Chicago, Illinois. This tallest skyscraper in the United States has four glass box viewing platforms. These balconies are suspended 1,353 feet (412 m) in the air on the 103rd floor. As per reports, the inspiration for The Ledge came from hundreds of forehead prints visitors left behind on Skydeck windows every week. Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, the architecture firm that designed the tower, also designed this balcony.

The balconies are at 103rd floor of the building. Impressive and truly amazing!
